Intersil Pico-qHD ™ is developed for low-power and cost-sensitive embedded or supporting mini-projector applications. It provides a fully integrated reference design that includes high-production light engines, hardware, firmware, and customizable design files. This low-cost system solution uses Micron ’s E330 compact 5.5 cubic centimeter qHD light engine and can be easily integrated into a wide range of applications, including Micron ’s recently launched portable PoP Video ™ mini projector mobile device accessories. Pico-qHD ™ is built on a compact, inexpensive 1.7 × 2 inch printed circuit board that can meet the low manufacturing cost requirements of applications such as consumer products such as digital cameras, mobile phones, tablets, video players, and other handheld products. Driven by these applications, Pacific Media Associates predicts that the annual sales of micro projectors will reach 58 million in 2015.
The platform is based on Intersil ’s new ISL97901, a fully integrated buck / boost RGGB-LED driver optimized for miniature projector display applications. ISL97901 provides industry-leading overall power efficiency, the smallest solution footprint, and the ability to drive RGB or RGGB or RGBW LEDs. ISL97901 maintains the highest image quality through precise current control. 2.0mA current accuracy provides consistent white balance settings, achieving consistency during the production unit and the entire life cycle of the mini projector. Its electronic system can drive up to 1.5A LED current, which makes it compatible with many high-power LEDs, and provides a brightness of more than 20 lumens for micro projectors.
In addition to the ISL97901 buck-boost LED driver, the LED LCoS mini-projector reference design also integrates a wide range of Intersil products, including TW8835 LCD video processor, ISL9307 power management IC, ISL9110 buck-boost converter, ISL9230 battery charging And ISL58333 OEIC sensor options for automatic real-time white balance control to maintain image quality and reduce light calibration costs.
