For several years, the chemical company Johnson Matthey has been working on 3D printing, but unlike other chemical companies, Johnson Matthey has not focused on plastic 3D printing, it decided to take the ceramic route. The company has been working on adhesive jet ceramic 3D printing and opened a R & D laboratory a few months ago.
In order to develop its own 3D printing technology, Johnson Matthey found the adhesive jet specialist voxeljet. Although voxeljet uses its own technology to 3D print plastics and sand, after collaborating with Johnson Matthey, it adjusted its own 3D printer to print ceramic powder.
"According to our specific powder and binder requirements, voxeljet has tailored a large-scale 3D printing platform for us, which brings great possibilities. With this technology, we can produce complex, porous, high-print resolution, excellent surface quality, and strength comparable to traditional manufacturing. These parts are suitable for a variety of applications, including Medical, automotive and aerospace, "Johnson Matthey said.
Johnson Matthey is already using voxeljet printers to quickly manufacture complex 3D printed designs that are lighter in weight, larger in geometric surface area, and more complex in shape (other technologies cannot achieve it). Thanks to the cooperation with voxeljet and its own R & D investment, Johnson Matthey has now become a leader in ceramic 3D printing.
