This VR game from Cambridge University can not only play but also treat dementia

Sea Hero Quest is a game jointly developed by Alzheimer Research and Deutsche Telekom of the University of Cambridge. It can collect data to see how our navigational capabilities change or degrade over time.

It then analyzes these changes to see if there are early signs of illness such as dementia.

The game was originally released as a mobile app, but has now developed a VR version.

This game provides players with a variety of skills, allowing players to collect stars, launch flares, and already remember the location of the banner.

Dr. Katie Stubbs of the UK Alzheimer's Research Center said: "This will help us understand which skills will change and which will not."

“This game has been promoted globally, so we can start researching player data from different countries.”

"Now that it has a VR version, the data we get is even richer - we can collect more data points per second, just like heat maps, we can see what is going on."

We learned that researchers only need to immerse themselves in the game for two minutes, and the researchers can get almost the same effect as the five-hour lab study.

But how do older people learn to play games on VR helmets?

Katie added: "The actual situation is much better than you think! And they play better on VR helmets than on tablets and mobile phones."

“VR is more intuitive, and the immersive world makes them feel natural.”
