Successfully developed plastic polymer extraction technology in the UK

Recently, scientists from Durham University, London, and the University of Manchester have teamed up to produce a rapeseed that contains a large amount of plasticized polymer, and has successfully extracted natural plastics from the seeds and leaves of the rapeseed. Processed into household trash cans and packaging bottles.

To cultivate this kind of rapeseed, researchers first used gene genetic technology to implant three kinds of biological genes that can produce plasticized polymers into rapeseed seeds and then sow them. This kind of rapeseed can not only grow naturally like other rapeseed, but also contain more plasticized polymers in seeds and leaves. The content of plasticized polymers in seeds can reach 20%, which is of great commercial development value.

According to reports, natural plastics extracted from oilseed rape and leaves have the greatest feature of no pollution compared with ordinary plastics, and can be biodegraded on their own. It is for this reason that the development of rapeseeds containing a large amount of plasticized polymers and the use of seeds and leaves of such rapeseeds for the extraction of natural green plastics are promising.
