The United States has developed a new biodegradable plastic film

Characteristics: The film is made using potatoes and whey. The biggest advantage of this plastic film is that it can be broken down into environmentally friendly lactic acid. The plastic film is manufactured by first converting the potato which is discarded after the whey formation at the time of making cheese into a glucose syrup and then forming a lactic acid-containing liquid by bacterial fermentation. The cheese in the liquid is separated by electrodialysis and heated to evaporate water, leaving behind the polylactic acid molecules that can be made into films and coatings.

Uses: The plastic film thus produced can be used as a fresh-keeping bag and replaces the packaging material coated with polyethylene and waterproof wax.
