With the continuous advancement of computer technology, simulator training, which is fundamentally different from the previous physical teaching training, has been used in many industries. The French company Sinapse, which is committed to simulator development, has also developed a simulator system suitable for printing. However, this simulation system has not been promoted in the domestic printing industry, and is not known to printing universities in printing enterprises. The Hubei Vocational and Technical College where I am located first purchased 3 sets of SHOTS (Single Sheet Offset Simulation System) simulation systems in central China. I was also fortunate to have participated in several training and conferences related to the simulation system. I have a general understanding of the printing simulation system. Let me talk about my understanding of the simulation system based on my experience!
SHOTS is a printing simulator developed by French Sinapse company after 15 years of research and development. It is a printing simulator that simulates the Roland 700 printing machine in the whole process. It gathers the actual experience of printing experts from various European countries and contains more than 600 printing failures. The system Constructed a six-color printing simulation from paper feeding to printing to receiving paper, including a series of modules such as printing plate, blanket, ink, fountain solution, paper and so on.
Through this system, the operator can intuitively feel the printing press as if operating a real printing press. The principle of this simulation system is that you can only learn by making mistakes-however, you can make mistakes on the simulation system instead of the printing press. Compared with the actual printing, the printing simulation system will not cause the consumption of paper and ink, and the consumption of the printing machine. Since there is no need for an actual machine and only operation on the computer, the safety of the trained operator is also guaranteed. Of course, there are many reasons for using analog systems.
1. Three highlights of SHOTS
For the study and improvement of printing technology, fault diagnosis is undoubtedly a good tool. In actual printing, the diagnosis of faults by worker masters is generally based on their actual experience, so the cause of the fault can only be based on their own experience. The longer the working hours, the richer the experience and the more accurate the judgment. But the accumulation of these experiences is not accumulated in one day or two days. Some failures are not seen even after working in the enterprise for ten or eight years. The SHOTS simulation system gives us a shortcut, which will cause every type of failure. Listed from these reasons, we can easily find a solution and leave a deep impression, next time in the actual printing operation, even if we have not actually encountered these failures before, we can easily eliminate them.
Its simulation of printing time cost and printing expense is also a highlight, which is somewhat similar to the printing ERP management system. In the simulator, paper consumption, material consumption (including ink, fountain solution, etc.), parts replacement, etc. have to consume a certain cost. As long as the unit quantity loss value is designed in advance, the simulator will automatically calculate the cost of consumption during the user's operation and display it in the lower left corner of copydesk. At the same time, there is also a time cost calculation in the simulator. Corresponding to each step of the operation, SHOTS has its corresponding time consumed in actual operation. The operator can learn the time and cost required to solve the problem when encountering the actual problem through this module.
Through this function, the operator can basically test out the time cost and expense spent in solving actual printing faults, so as to make a preliminary assessment of their own capabilities. More importantly, you can find an optimal operation plan through a series of operations, find out unnecessary operation processes and losses, and maximize the actual benefits of printing.
In addition, the SHOTS simulation system can also simulate small changes in actual printing. We know that a small change in a parameter in actual printing may cause a large difference in the quality of the printed matter, and SHOTS can simulate the change of the sample when the parameter changes ( Represented by the proofs taken in copydesk), this is undoubtedly a big highlight. The operator can intuitively observe the impact of each parameter on the printing process, thus having a deeper understanding of the printing process.
2. Use of SHOTS
SHOTS simulated and reproduced the faults and errors in the production of real printing presses in the form of software. The system includes more than 300 practical practice questions, including about 200 GATF standard offset printing process training and examination questions, as well as various other standard practice questions. Operators can have a substantial understanding of the printing process through exercises, and gradually accumulate experience in solving printing problems through continuous practice.
There are two modes in SHOTS training: standard mode and practice mode. The author briefly introduces the two modes below.
There is no fault setting in the standard mode, and it can be used for cognitive training for novices. By changing the parameters inside to observe the changes of "samples", there is a preliminary understanding of the meaning of each parameter. For example, when we explain the balance of water and ink to the students in the training teaching, we use this mode to increase the amount of water or ink, print out the proofs, and then explain the reasons of the problem proofs to the students. The abstract theory becomes simple and easy to understand. At the same time, through continuous practice, the operator can gradually grasp the values of some parameters, such as the normal printing pressure of this model at each printing speed, the size of the air volume at the position of the feeder, etc., which will be printed later on the machine. Provides effective setting parameters, reducing the time and cost of troubleshooting. This is the ultimate goal of SHOTS training.
The practice mode includes about 200 GATF standard offset printing process training and examination questions and other exercises mentioned above. This model is mainly used to train personnel with practical experience and is the best means to test theoretical knowledge. A large part of the student's learning assessment is achieved through this link. We know that the same failure may be caused by many aspects, but the main factor is one or two. How to find the main reason from many factors, this is To make the operator have a strong adaptability and intuition, we found that students can solve most problems, but the efficiency of solving problems varies greatly. The main reason is that there is no good way to solve problems, all possible causes are Carry out debugging, of course, so that you can finally find the reason to solve the fault. The SHOTS practice mode has its own characteristics in this respect. This series of exercises are set by printing experts through the analysis of long-term printing data. They are the most common problems and failures of printing plants. Through the answers to these exercises, the operator A systematic knowledge system can be gradually formed, which can quickly find the cause and propose solutions when printing failures occur, thereby minimizing costs.
Trainees can also edit the exercises themselves through the Trainer module to conduct targeted assessment of the trainees. Its advantage lies in: It can set different levels of difficulty according to the different professional levels of the trainees, so that all trainees can get the most suitable training for themselves, and truly "teaching according to their aptitude". Especially for printing companies, production processes suitable for specific companies are different. SHOTS can make exercises based on the characteristics of their own companies by experienced veteran employees, and conduct targeted training or skill appraisal of their employees. The purpose of training or skill assessment is clearer and the effect is more prominent. This is what we are going to do next. We will introduce enterprises in need in our society to our training classes, and make different training programs for specific companies so that students can get out of the classroom and get on the machine.
In addition, in the actual printing, every small change in the parameters will cause a big difference in the printing quality. And SHOTS achieved a full reproduction of this process. The results of each parameter change can be reproduced in the extracted "sample", which can truly simulate the printing process, and each time we change the printing parameters may affect other printing units, we can get a result by testing these parameters A series of process reference data, complete some printability experiments, this can also provide us with first-hand information on experimental research.
But in use, we still feel that SHOTS is not intuitive enough, and all the operating interfaces are two-dimensional. To make up for this deficiency, the software can enable students to see the real operation of the printing press in the form of multimedia, and these video materials It can be added in specific places according to your needs, which brings great convenience to training and teaching. Talking to Mr. Yanjing Xingzongdi, I learned that in the future SHOTS system can be connected to a CPC console. Through these measures, I believe that students can have a real immersive feeling and can understand the printing process more intuitively.
3. Outlook of SHOTS
Compared with the real printing press, no matter from what angle, the cost of SHOTS training is very low. First of all, the price of SHOTS is not high, which is more obvious than a real printing machine; secondly, the printing machine needs to be continuously maintained during use, and selecting simulation training can save these operations and costs. Thirdly, compared with on-machine training, simulation training has no hidden safety hazards, and the safety of the operator can be fully guaranteed; fourth, simulation software training has a short and flexible cycle and can train multiple people in a short time . It can be seen that, compared with the on-machine training, regardless of the time or cost, the cost advantage of simulated training is still very obvious. As Peter Herman, chairman of Sinapse, said, "The price of this software is less than one percent of the price of a printing press. If a real printing press takes 3 to 5 years to train printing workers, and a machine Only 4 workers can be trained, and our training simulator software can train 20 to 30 workers in only 18 months. "
Even well-trained employees can benefit from some training courses on this software. In general, printers do not know the cost of producing low-grade materials. Waste material will be disposed of, and the cost is only known to a few people. This software will enable the trainee to see the cost (profit or loss) of his actions in real time during the training course. He will understand why mistakes are often costly. This can increase the awareness of the operator, which usually brings a stronger sense of responsibility. At the same time, the trainers can create simulations of various production failures for training and use according to the different operation levels of the trainees, so as to increase their skills and improve production efficiency.
As mentioned above, the role of SHOTS in printing training is quite obvious. Low cost, strong practicability, and short training period are undoubtedly the first considerations for printing companies to train employees, and SHOTS has many advantages. Therefore, in the next few years, more and more companies will inevitably choose SHOTS, and the field of use of SHOTS will surely become wider and wider. Because it can simulate the printing site more realistically on the computer, the operator will feel immersive, as if he is operating the printing machine, and learn and understand the printing principle in the process of software operation, fully master the printing failure Special technical knowledge such as elimination methods shortens the growth period of the captain and reduces production consumption. SHOTS will bring revolutionary changes to the talent training model in the printing industry, especially the training model for captains.
In the next few years, a major challenge for the offset printing industry is to set "skill standards" for its employees-this is the standard expected by talents in various fields, and the two-year national printing skills competition is also on schedule. It also promotes the identification of printing professional qualifications. How to establish an effective and reasonable mechanism to assess the professional grade of printing is a difficult problem, because there is a problem of how to establish a fair and reasonable external environment and how to establish a set of standard evaluation standards. SHOTS provides us with a good platform.
Of course, the SHOTS printing simulation system still provides a simulated environment, and it cannot completely replace the actual training method for hands-on operation, but first fully practice on the SHOTS printing simulation system before starting the operation, but it can greatly shorten the hands-on training Time and training cost savings. SHOTS simulation training will undoubtedly become the trend of printing training. As Mr. Shen Zhongkang, a consultant of China Printing Technology Association, said, today's printing industry in China is in a transitional stage, and the improvement of the technology and quality of enterprise personnel is of great strategic significance. And this advanced and practical software can just meet the needs of enterprise training, and at the same time save a lot of costs for enterprises.
Nowadays, SHOTS is not only favored by major printing professional schools around the world, some printing companies and printing consumable suppliers are also the beneficiaries of SHOTS printing simulation system. I believe that in the near future, with the advancement of computer simulation technology, the SHOTS printing simulation system will be more perfect, and it can truly achieve immersive practical operation. This will definitely be based on its advanced training concept, novel training methods, and excellent The training effect has won the favor of more companies and colleges, setting off a revolution in the printing industry's talent training methods.
