Printing iron ink is a special offset printing ink. If the operator does not understand the performance and color matching knowledge of the iron printing ink, no matter how bright the ink is, it will not achieve the expected appearance effect and due quality level.
The essential properties of iron printing ink
Each color has three attributes: hue, lightness and saturation. Hue can be expressed by the wavelength of light waves, that is, different colors reflect different wavelengths. Lightness indicates the lightness and darkness of the color, and the lightness of the ink indicates how much light the ink reflects. Saturation refers to the purity of a color. If an object has a high reflectivity for light in a certain band of the spectrum, and a low or no reflectivity for light in other bands, the purity of the color is high.
The pigment of iron printing ink usually accounts for 1% to 35 of the ink composition. The amount of pigment determines the concentration of the ink and also has a great influence on the relative density, transparency, heat resistance and light resistance of the ink. In the ink color matching process, the ink should be selected according to factors such as the iron printing process, the thickness of the ink layer, and the nature of the print. At the same time, the gloss, hue, tinting power, hiding power and other properties of the ink itself must be considered.
1. Gloss: refers to the ability of the ink to reflect light in the same direction under the influence of light after printing, which directly affects the appearance of the printed product. It can be measured with a gloss meter or judged by the naked eye.
2. Hue: It is the basic characteristic of color. The color matcher must first consider whether the hue is consistent. The detection method is: by scraping the color of the sample paper or simulating the iron printing method, compare the standard sample and the sample with the naked eye, and observe whether the hue is consistent.
3. Covering power: refers to the ability of ink to cover the background color. The better the covering power, the lower the transparency. The level of transparency directly affects the efficiency of ink color registration and the degree of influence of printed parts.
4. Coloring power: used to indicate the concentration of ink. The measuring method is as follows: after adding a certain amount of standard white ink to a certain amount of ink to dilute and mix it, it is compared with the standard sample. The color strength reflects the relationship between the degree of ink color mixing and the thickness of the ink film.
The gloss, hue, and hiding power can be identified by the scraping test of the scraped paper. The specific operations are as follows: put standard ink in the upper left corner of the scraped paper and color matching ink in the upper right corner, so that the standard scraper and the scraped paper are flattened at a perpendicular angle. For thin compresses, gently spread the thick compresses at an oblique angle. After the ink surface is dried, observe the hue of the ink in the thin part, observe the gloss difference between the two inks in the thick part, and identify the ink hiding power (transparency) in the black band (solid) part. Normally, black or color inks use white scraped paper, and white inks use black scraped paper. Observation of color samples is carried out under indirect indoor light sources during the day and under standard light sources at night.
Matters needing attention in printing iron ink color matching
Avoid using too much colored ink. Because the more ink, the farther away from the standard color, the worse the brightness, the worse the gloss of the mixed color. At the same time, it is necessary to choose the same brand of ink to avoid the disadvantages of color escape and reduced transfer performance caused by the mixing of inks of different manufacturers and different brands in the production of printing iron.
